Dead Fish Handshake Says Lots on Themselves and Their Music!

Rock band DEAD FISH HANDSHAKE had burst upon the music scene back in 2011. Since then, they have released a couple of EP's, single's and have their debut album out this fall as well! The band will perform a live pay per view online live stream performance come November, and just promote their album to bits and pieces! The band goes on more to say lots about themselves and the music they make.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

Dead Fish Handshake is the brainchild of former Downshallow guitarist Rob Ferreira and former Days Unknown vocalist Matthew Paul. Originally started as an acoustic side project, the band became full fledged after the success of their initial EP "Across State Lines". The EP was in honor of the individual music scenes that Matthew and Rob came from respectively. The first single "changes" proved as a launching point for DFH and soon enough the band was rounded out on a full time basis by Mark Birkelbach (drums) and Darren Furman (bass). After catching the attention of Sevendust guitarist and producer Clint Lowery, The band took an immediate step up with the release of their sophomore EP The Sixes. A national tour followed as well as numerous opening slots with Stone temple Pilots, gobsmack, skillet, queensryche, six AM, stabbing westward, living color and collective soul. After those tours came the release of 4 additional singles...nothing stays gold, all time low, Devolution and love/remains. After a year of downtime the band has returned with a brand new LP, "lies...and all that jazz" slated for a September release date.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

The band name was taken after a meeting with a crooked lawyer who was only interested in getting paid. His dead fish handshake at the end taught us what would be a very important lesson in insincerity in the music industry.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

The band is based out of NJ and RI. All music scenes have been dying. To be able to stay at the top of our scenes has been very satisfying.

4. How would you describe your style?

We are an active rock band that focuses on dynamics and melody. We can go from the heaviness of Soundgarden to the balladry of u2 with a little bit of Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails mixed in for good measure. We aim to pay homage to iconic rock bands while maintaining a modern taste.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

We have released 2 EPs. 4 digital singles and our first LP is slated to come out on 9/18. We also offer a free Xmas acoustic download to our fan base every year.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

Our new album is available 9/18 and the lead single "no ones island" has garnered radio play at select active rock radio stations.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

We have a series of live stream pay per view performance slated for November on our media channels.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

We plan to begin writing and recording new music in early 2021

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

The band can be heard on all major streaming platforms and merch can be bought at www.deadfishhandshake.com.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

We want the listener to remember the emotional journey that our songs bring them through and remember that pain doesn't last forever. There's hope out there and there is strength in numbers. Darkness always gathers around the light and we all control our own switch.
