Out Of My Way Discloses Matters As a Trio!

Punk alternative band OUT OF MY WAY consists of a trio of members, whose time together has been short but sweet. Whilst releasing as they say a bunch of stuff, only to be found online! A handful of new material has been written and recorded and will likely be released in the form of something or other real soon though. In fact, the three trio members got together to disclose these matters and more.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

We all have been friends for a long time and used to play in prior bands before we started Out of My Way. The band we had together most recently before we started Out of My Way consisted of us three plus one more person which constantly would come and go. Basically all three of us had become very close friends so when we sat down to to discuss starting a new band it was a pretty obvious thing to make Out of My Way a trio. - Tobias

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

We honestly had a really hard time finding a band name haha. One other name that was really close to making it was "A Punch or Two" which is a reference to Neck Deep’s song "Can’t Kick Up The Roots". The origin behind the name Out of My Way really isn’t much haha. Christian pitched it after a few beers at the bar along with like 20 other names and we all agreed that it sounded cool. - Tobias

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

We are based in Stockholm, Sweden and we all grew up in the suburbs just outside of town. The music scene here really isn’t much and a lot of places have been closing down in the past years but we are doing what we can to keep the scene alive. One legendary place here in Stockholm is Kafé 44 which has been around for 40 years or so. We played a show there last year and when I walked home that night I remember feeling like “As long as were here, the music scene will be alive”. A lot of people turned up and we had a blast. A local band we have to recommend is our friends in Those Without. We are super good friends even though they live in Örebro which is a town about 2 hours away from Stockholm. We try to hang out as often as we can and have played tons of shows together.
Remember where you heard their name first, cause those guys might be the next big thing! - Tobias

4. How would you describe your style?

We draw a lot of musical inspiration from the punk rock scene from the 90's from bands like Green Day, Offspring, NOFX, Rancid etc. but our influences are very diverse in terms of what we all listen to. For example Christian is really into a Swedish punk subgenre called "Trallpunk", Tobbe really likes country music and Charlie listens to a lot of hip hop and soundcloud rap so I guess we draw influences from all kinds of genres. We all help write the lyrics to our songs and we all draw a lot of inspiration from what is happening around us, what we see and what we hear. - Tobias

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

We have released a bunch of stuff so far. You can find it all on YouTube, Spotify and all those other places where you can find music. If you want something specific to look at we can really recommend the music video for our song "Privilege". - Tobias

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

Since around February this year we have six songs in total recorded, two of which we’ve released already. Our original plan for these six songs was to release 1-2 tracks off of it before releasing the rest and advertising it as a new EP. However, given the current state of streaming services (namely, Spotify) and the way new music is doled out, we eventually back-pedaled on that decision and instead opted to put out each song off of this EP individually, to funnel as much attention to each individual song as possible rather than spreading it too thin across too much material all at once. - Charlie

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

Once the pandemic is over, we’ll be out playing shows again. We all miss it so much! - Christian

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

First of all release the rest of the songs from our EP "What Can I Say". Currently we’re also working on new stuff. We’re trying to keep a constant flow and continuously release new stuff to get as much traction as possible. - Christian

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

We have sick music videos made by our buddies David Andersson and Isak Ohlander! They’re all on YouTube. Besides that you can find all our music on Spotify, Apple Music and every other major streaming platform. - Christian

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

Doesn’t have it to be anything overly profound, haha! I’d like to think people can hear our music for the first time and come off of with the impression that we have potential and talent, rather than being written off as sounding like "just another local band". - Charlie
