Docksuns Says Loads About Whereabouts, Music, and Wanting to Play!

Indie rockers DOCKSUNS is a little band that started writing music and the rest is simply history according to them at least. With that they have released a couple of single's and EP's as well. New music will come forth soon enough, with plans on playing gigs when the time is just right! See what the band had to say about everything else below.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

Docksuns are a five piece indie rock band hailing from Sunderland in North East of England. The band was put together by lead guitarist Neil Douthwaite who responded to an instagram story of the now drummer, Glenn Laws, playing the guitar. Bringing in fellow friends James Baxter on acoustic guitar and lead vocals, Steve Keogh on rhythm guitar and Adam Dawkins on bass, the band was made complete.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

As proud residents of Sunderland, the band wanted to pay homage to their home town city. All living in close proximity to the dock region, sons of the dock quickly became the focus of the band name. The latter part of the band is spelt ‘suns’ giving another nod to the city that they are from.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

Sunderland is a working class city that has a DIY music scene, quickly gathering pace as a vibrant music hub that boasts a broad mix of established and emerging artists. From Mackem treasures "The Futureheads" to local favorites of the band "The Voyd" and "Noyou", Sunderland has long punched above its musical weight.

4. How would you describe your style?

The band prides themselves on their indie rock versatility. Whether it’s the catchy kick of "Lost Without You" or the relatable lyrics of "Devils Door", Docksuns have a broad range of summer anthems and meaningful ballads in their arsenal. The band’s style provides up beat catchy toe tappers that listeners struggle to forget.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

The band has released one single and 2x two track EPs. Their most renowned song is "Lost Without You", a firm fan favorite that was the band’s first ever release. The best is yet to come however with the forthcoming release of their latest single, "Dancing on the Radio". Listeners of Docksuns should expect catchy riffs paired with even more memorable lyrics. Upbeat tempos and alternative base lines are commonplace helping to create music that listeners can distinguish with ease.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

The band’s next release, "Dancing On The Radio" will hit the airwaves on 5th June. Following the release of their previous five tracks, DOTR is nothing like their fans will have heard before. Developing as musicians, they continue to go from strength to strength. Studio time on the single was extensive in the pursuit for the perfect sound. The new track provides a variety of alternative sounds that haven’t been heard on previous Docksuns songs. Claps, xylophones and distorted vocals. You name it. The song’s got it.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

Since the band’s first gig at a local bar in Sunderland city centre in June 2019, Docksuns have went from strength to strength playing a number of high profile gigs including Sounds of Sunderland music Festival and the Sunderland International Airshow. Typical gigs are met by an army of their rowdy fans. The band were due to make their debut appearance in London before the show got cancelled due to the pandemic. Docksuns also planning on embarking on their first mini UK tour, something which will be resumed at the earliest opportunity. The band are eager to make up for lost time and will be looking to visit all corners of the UK to reach out to new fans.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

Gigging, gigging and more gigging. Docksuns will continue taking their music far and wide to broaden their exposure to and to get more experience under their belts. Whilst their recorded tracks give a fresh musical punch, live music is what they do best. Bigger shows and bigger crowds are the obvious target for the band, but developing their talents and skills is also a priority so that they can continue producing new music for their fans. The band’s ultimate aim however remains clearer. To play Glastonbury in a Sunderland shirt.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

Fans of the band can keep up to date with Docksuns on all main social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. Their music can be streamed from Spotify and Apple Music. The band don’t have MySpace but they’re getting around to it...

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

Catchy melodies and real life lyrics. Join them on their journey.
