Mark Eden Talks the Future, New Music, and Playing Soon!

Straight from down under Australia singer/songwriter MARK EDEN currently lives in Berlin, but has had his time spent here and there, whilst making music! Four albums to his name, with more material expected which is great to hear as well. Plans ahead is to continue making music along with the chance of playing and touring as much as possible, when the option happens next. For now, Mark himself does the talking about all of this below.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

I have been playing for many years with my first release which was ‘Meltʼ in 1999 to the current
albumʼ Things to Beʼ which was released late last year. The current line up is myself on vocals and 12 string acoustic guitar, Julia Eden, vocals & bass and Dexter Stanley Tauvao on drums and vocals. I toured Australia many times before I moved to Berlin in 2005. Before moving to Berlin I developed
with my band at the time a tribal, acoustic rock/pop feel live which was great dance to. I continue to this day to have that approach when playing live…..I love it. I have had the pleasure to play heaps of shows here in Europe including the Biggest Bodypainting Festival in the world which was super cool, crazy and loads of fun all at the same time.

2. Whatʼs the origin of the bandʼs name?

The origin of the bands name is pretty simple it's my name easier huh!!! ;)

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands
you could recommend?

The band is based in Berlin and the music scene here is fantastic. The small club scene as well as
busking thrives here as I suppose it does in the most major cities. Most of my favorite local bands have all but disbanded, which is a pity but it happens. I don't go out and see as many bands any more as I used to because I find myself spending most of my time working on my solo project and my band Under the Tongue, doing music videos, writing, recording and trying to keep up with social media seems to keep me pretty busy nowadays. I would recommend Seeed and Beatsteaks, they are both quite well known and put on a good show.

4. How would you describe your style?

My style I suppose you could describe it as singer/songwriter acoustic/rock/ pop with some percussive grooves and some chanting thrown in.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

Have released four albums with my latest being ‘Things to Beʼ which was released last year. I think I
have many personalities as far as music goes and it depends on any given day which one I feed is the
one that will come out. From my solo project you can expect acoustic grooves with a dance element,
singalong choruses with some chanting and  percussion. I enjoy playing ballads also which give
me a chance to chill out a bit when I play live and make it a bit more intimate.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

I have already written and recorded many new songs for future releases which is great. I write a lot
and love to produce music in different genres, which keeps life interesting.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

I am playing a few shows here in Germany and Europe this year but because of the COVID-19 lots
have been cancelled and or postponed. A plan is underway to tour Europe and the UK as well as
Mexico and Sth America, so there is lots going on which is exciting.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

The plan for the future of the band is to enjoy playing, recording and touring and savoir each moment of the process.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

You can listen to my music on all the usual suspects like Spotify, Youtube, iTunes, Amazon, Deezer etc. Also it is possible to get your physical  copies and merch through my shop on my official
website markeden.com.

10. What is it youʼd like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

After hearing my music for the first time I would like the listener to walk away with a big fat smile while groovinʼ along and singing the songs in their head. The feeling of unlimited possibility is what I would love you to remember. Thanks so much for the opportunity to chat with you it has been super cool and I really appreciate it. Cheers Mark. :)
