The Greatness Design Talks Creation with Music

Technical melodic death metallers The Greatness Design have released their debut album "Pillars Of Creation" since then they have gone on playing shows left and right and have a lot more tunes in-store! The entire band took some time to discuss this release and what else these guys have lined-up.

1. Can I get a backstory on the band/ band biography?

Ali : The band started 2012 in Mexico with two ex-members of the band Behading Ali Rebollar (Drums) and Juan Carlos Tello (Guitar). We worked together since 2006.  With ideas for songs that have never seen the light before ,we wanted to make a new turn musically, so we began auditioning musicians for the band and after some time Luis Aguilar and Uriel Claro joined the project.

2. How did you guys come up with your band name?

Luis: The name came just after finishing the lyrics of the album, the concept was a theory about aliens as creators of humankind, and after several names and opinions we came with “The Greatness Design” referring to humanity as the masterpiece of extraterrestrial beings long ago.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

Tello: We all once lived at the same time in the state of Hidalgo in Mexico and because of Beheading we always knew each other, but never really met every member until the auditions, all of us  studied or still study college in Mexico City now, but essentially the metal scene here was the thing that brought us together. The metal scene in México is not as big as we wanted it to be, because here metal is not popular,  but Mexico is already producing very good material, Here Comes The Kraken, Betraying a Falling Hero, One of Us, Arcadia Libre, Enough has Been Said, From Alaska, Lack Of Remorse and Limerance for example.

4. What lyrical theme do you guys use in your music? What message do you want to send?

Uri : Pillars of Creation is a conceptual album that is basically a story that talks about extraterrestrial beings that created humanity based in advanced genetic technology. The alien’s purpose was to prevail in the universe. This experiment was a failure because we are independent but we have lack of morality.

5. What bands have influenced your band and its sound?

Tello: Between the four of us we listen tons of music, we have our favorites, Animals as Leaders, Periphery, Born Of Osiris, The Faceless, BTBAM,  Black Dahlia Murder, Guthrie Govan, just to name some. We tried in this album to create our own sound.

6. Is there any story or concept behind the Pillars Of Creation title?

Ali: We wanted the album’s title to reflect the concept itself and also because that’s what it is for us ,the foundation of our career and sound.

7. Who produced Pillars Of Creation and what was it like working with them?

Luis : All the production was made by the band, the 4 members contributed in almost every area, in pre-production and production, being Ali the only graduated audio engineer, he made the mix and the master.

8. Who did the cover art for Pillars Of Creation and how much input did you have on it?

Uri: The design was made by Dan Mumford, he made and awesome work respecting our ideas.

9. Do you guys have any new music in the works as far as a follow-up release?

Uri : The release of “Pillars Of Creation” was in April 21 2013, and for the moment we just want to play it live, but of course there will be new material in the future.

10. Will you be shooting a video for any of the songs off Pillars Of Creation?

Tello: Yes there is a new video coming up , we can’t say details but the song will be Silent Exposure! We will start shooting it in September so you can enjoy it as soon as possible!

11. What are your upcoming touring/show plans?

Ali: We are actually touring the south of Mexico with our friends of Here Comes The Kraken. And then we are planning another tour in October in the north zone of Mexico.

12. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

Ali : You can find our album almost everywhere, for download and streaming. CD Baby, iTunes, Spotify, Deezer between others. And if you want a physical copy and merch you can check our Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/thegreatnessdesign.

13. What is it you'd like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

Luis: The singularity, we worked very hard on making something different from what is in the market already.

14. What can the fans expect to see from you in the future?

Tello: Give you guys awesome live shows with great performance! And of course new material.

15. Any final words of wisdom?

Luis: I think you have to stick to what you like no matter the situation.

Tello : working hard is the faster way up.
