Buried Talks of Debut EP, Follow-Up EP, and Upcoming Plans for Shows!

Metal act BURIED have a debut EP out, and will release a follow-up EP soon enough. With that the band has plans to do some shows coming up fast, with more shows and tours to follow. The band talks with us about their influences, reasoning behind their name, and plans ahead.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

We went back and forth on band names a lot. It was really down to two names, and we thought Buried had a better ring than USA Rockers.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Easy answer - Acid Bath.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Unfortunately yes haha. We’ve all known each other for a long time. I’ve known Joe since like 4th grade, and he’s been the drummer of nearly every band I’ve been in. Ben was the vocalist of a band we were all in together for like 6 years, we broke up about 15 years ago, and we’ve all known Alex for about 20 years, also through music.

4. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

We’re based out of Phoenix, AZ. The scene is ok, many of the bands are deathcore, or post metal, but there are a lot of great bands here. Of course Vehemence is from here, and those guys have another project called Forward Without Motion which is really good. Goya is a fantastic band that is doing some really good shit. Alliance is great and making a ton of noise. Fifth Density is an awesome prog metal band. I could keep going, there’s some good stuff happening in the Phoenix metal scene.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Some of my biggest musical inspirations are Acid Bath, Death, Cannibal Corpse, and Dream Theater. I also get inspired by movies or even just nature.

6. What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)

Murder, death, kill, dead, die!

7. Do you write your own songs? (Discuss the songwriting process in detail.)

We do. I typically write the songs and then present a demo to the band. Riffs come to me all the time, typically at the worst time like when I’m trying to sleep, and I’ll try to record them or write them out as soon as possible, so I don’t forget. If a particular riff really inspires me I’ll just build upon it either on my bass or sometimes just on paper. Other riffs I shelf and come back to later. Once a song is complete, I demo out the bass, guitar, and drums and then send it to the band. At that point they add their input and bring their style into the song. Ben summons demons to write all our lyrics.

8. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

So far we’ve only released 3 songs from our EP Infect and Replicate. For each song we’ve released either a lyric video, or a music video, or both. What to expect - can’t remember who it was, but someone described our music as “Burn the Priest meets Black Sabbath.” So expect that.

9. Do you have any new music in the works?

We do, we’re currently working on the follow-up to Infect and Replicate. A couple of those songs can be heard if you catch us live.

10. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

We have a run setup going through Phoenix, Las Vegas, Anaheim, and San Diego starting February 12th. Since you’re in Glendale, we’ll see you at our Anaheim show February 13th, yeah???

11. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

Well now that Acid Bath is back, we’re gonna plan to hit the road with them! They might or might not be unaware of this plan.

12. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
