Hangarvain Discusses New Album, Touring Cycles and More!

Elemental act HANGARVAIN is set to release their new album just in time for the holidays! Following this, they will be going on a tour, with a future tour planned for next year! The band discusses this album, touring, and further plans ahead.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

Hangarvain was formed in 2013 in Naples, Southern Italy, through the creative partnership between vocalist Sergio Toledo Mosca and guitarist/producer Alessandro Liccardo. Since then, the band has released four studio albums, two EPs, and performed hundreds of concerts and festivals across Europe, both as headliners and alongside renowned artists such as Y&T, Hardcore Superstar, The Darkness, Gilby Clarke of Guns N' Roses, Thomas Silver, Slipknot, Sabaton, Skillet, L.A. Guns, and many more. Over the years, the band’s sound has evolved from their Southern Rock origins, moving towards alternative and post-grunge influences. In their recent albums, the rock foundation has been increasingly enriched with elements of blues, R&B, soul, and black music in general. Their new album, Dèka, set to be released by Volcano Records on December 6th, is a perfect testament to this evolution.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

The band's name combines the words "Hangar" and the adjective "Vain." An "hangar" is where airplanes are parked, and aviation is a shared passion of both Sergio and Alessandro. The word "vain," with its connotation of emptiness, conveys a sense of something imminent, something about to happen. In any case, it’s a very original name, one we had never heard before, and we liked it right from the start. It’s truly a unique name.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

Hangarvain was born in Naples, and although over the years we've welcomed musicians from various backgrounds, our connection to the city remains very strong. It's not so much a musical connection in the strict sense, as Naples isn’t particularly known for its rock scene (though one of the most famous rock labels is based here), but rather a spiritual one. Naples is a unique city where people have a very distinctive, creative approach to life, perhaps because it's located at the foot of a volcano, which gives everyone a more open and possibility-driven mindset. We like to think that wherever we go in the world, we carry a bit of the warmth of our homeland with us.

4. How would you describe your style?

We started off with a very powerful, muscular rock sound, but melody has always been our top priority. In recent years, though, we’ve significantly rediscovered our passion for black music, blues, and even soul and funk. The new album features a lot of different elements, born from a wide range of influences and passions, some of which are really quite diverse from one another, and we're very happy with the result.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

The new album is set to be released on December 6, as we’ve already announced, but before that, there will be four singles, all tied together by a unified concept that combines music and visuals. The music videos will be very unique, almost cryptic, but with strong symbolism and a common thread linking the various stories being told.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

We’ve just finished producing ten tracks, with the mastering done in Nashville by Steve Corrao, with whom we've been collaborating for over ten years. We've put together the best possible tracklist, combining classic songs from our repertoire, rearranged for the occasion, with entirely original pieces. We’re absolutely thrilled with the result and can’t wait for you to hear the full album!

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

We will be doing an Italian tour in December 2024, hitting the major cities, and we are already planning a European tour for Spring 2025.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

Right now, we are very focused on the release of the new album and the concerts we will be performing. In the future, we want to continue exploring the emotions that life has to offer, telling those stories through music, and sharing them with our fans. We have no intention of stopping!

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

You can find our music on all digital platforms, or you can buy our albums and merchandise at our concerts or through our website, www.hangarvain.com.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

We want the honesty of what we do to always come through. In our music, we have always put our entire selves into it, sharing our joys and our sorrows. We have been pursuing this project for over ten years, and we have grown as individuals as well as artists. What we hope people always take away is that behind the music, there are human beings—souls who feel emotions and strive to live their dreams every day to make them a reality. Thank you for the space you’ve dedicated to us.
