Relentless Aggression Talks of Debut Album and Promotion for It!

Aggressive go getters RELENTLESS AGGRESSION have a single along with a debut album both out now. A new song has also been finished and should be released very soon. The band just wants to promote their current content as much as possible, with releasing music videos and other crafty ideas in the works!

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

The band originally started up in 1986 under the name Hell Awaits. (No points for guessing where the first inspiration for the band came from). We were just kids wanting to play thrash metal and have fun. We had limited playing skills but still a sense of writing a good thrash metal song or two. We rehearsed in an old fall out shelter close to where Yngve and I lived. In addition to me (Finn) and Yngve, the band consisted of Dag on bass and Erik (later drummer for Immortal, Gorgoroth and Borknagar) on drums.

After nearly thirty years concentrating on other bands and other projects, me and Yngve decided to record two of the old songs and release it on vinyl. Some of the original songs were just too good to die of old age! A seven inch single was released in 2018 in a very limited number, and quickly became a collector's item. New songs started to flow, and it soon was clear that a full length album had to be made. The band entered Solslottet studio with engineer and producer Iver Sandøy (Enslaved), and recorded three old songs and seven brand new ones. Iver also did all the studio session drumming.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

We didn’t feel that we could use the old band name Hell Awaits, both since the name is outdated and it’s only Yngve and me left. We needed a band name that fits the music. Since our music is fast and aggressive, I think we pretty much hit the nail on the head with Relentless Aggression.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

We’re based in Bergen, Norway. Bergen is mostly known for it’s black metal. Immortal, Gorgoroth, Take, Helheim etc. are from this part of Norway. There’s also a lot of other bands in different genres here. At the moment the live music scene is dead (as in the rest of the world), so we spend our time making new songs and recording them. Makkmat is a grindcore band from Bergen that I would recommend if you like that style.

4. How would you describe your style?

We describe it as old school thrash metal, even though our music is more than that. We get inspiration from a lot of different metal styles as well as punk and hardcore. In the feedback we have gotten from reviews of the album, we have been compared to Slayer, Kreator, Exodus, D.R.I., Suicidal Tendencies, M.O.D. and Destruction amongst others.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

We have released a vinyl single with two songs in 2018. Our debut album, "A Shadow of All Things Broken", was released February 2021. You can expect aggressive music with grim lyrics made by a hungry band that loves what they are doing!

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

We are just in the process of finishing a new song, Yngve did the vocals this week. It only lacks a bit of a additional guitar, and then the final mix. We will use the song on a compilation album with other Norwegian bands. The album will be released in a couple of months. We will also release the songs as a single and make a video for it. We are also in the process of making new songs for our next album.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

At the moment that is not possible because of the Pandemic. When things get better, we will discuss the possibility of putting together a live line-up.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

We have gotten great feedback for our debut album, and will continue to promote it as good as we can. We’ve been featured in Scream Magazine, Metal Hammer Norway, Zero Tolerance, Metalized, heavymetal.no and many other magazines and websites, and more will come in the near future. Next week we will release a video for "End of Religion", and more videos are in the making.
