Barzakh's Agni Talks Black Metal Indonesian Style

Indonesian black metal band Barzakh formed in 1998 and has since played shows and written and recorded material for future releases. Guitarist and vocalist Agni discusses with me the band's past, present, and future plans.

1. Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in Barzakh, and how long the band has been together?

Agni: Yes, Thanks my name is Agni (Guitar/Vocals in the band). I was with Getz has done a lot of things for the band started making songs and make an album, promotion through networking internet, make merchandise t-shirts, stickers, etc. .... I have 10 years with the band, but the longest is the Getz has almost 16 Years together in the band from the beginning before the band formed. Our band is now 15 years old.

2. Can I get a backstory on the band/ band biography?

Agni: Sure...for more detail please visit on our official page : www.barzakh97.webs.com, then click the biography page.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

Agni: My band based in the center of Jakarta, here have started many bands metal / metal music lovers minded forward with often many metal event friends are made as Event Organizer, unlike in era 1988 where very few bands metal / metal music lovers and for a metal event only once in year. differences in the old times to the modern age is now only limited knowledge is to be a metal head.I recommend: Kekal, Vallendusk, Gerhana Total, etc....Or for more details please visit the Black Metal Community that I have : search on Facebook page : Jakarta Indonesian Black Metal Syndicate.

4. How did you guys come up with your band name?

Agni: Beginning in 1997 we formed a band session when we were in a college in jakarta 'Jayabaya University' to complete the program of study then we start with the name of the band BARZAKH formed in 1998 where in the country we are being hit by the economic crisis because the performance of our president is a lot of corruption. But with the passage of time my band still survive by some of the existing personnel.

5. What bands have influenced your band and its sound?

Agni: C.O.F (Old), Mayhem, Dissection, Etc....for me they are the pioneer Black Metal band because musically they make very good and the sound quality is also unique.

6. What lyrical theme do you guys use in your music? What message do you want to send?

Agni: Themed on life stories, historical stories of death, and hatred. Moral message I want to convey is a message about the reality of life to do kindness among humans, to do good with GOD (if you believe in GOD???), hates hypocrisy human right in general.

7. What should labels/zines/promoters know about your band? Why should they be interested in it?

Agni: What I do is promotion, we realized we were not like a boy band must have a manager, have a label to market all the album was released, has an expensive musical equipment, What we do is stick with the simplicity that we have now, we do it all pure itself (D.I.Y). Attraction of them probably from our simplicity of their generally interested in the quality of the music that we make with maintaining the image by not changing the concept of the music that we made earlier "True Black Metal"!.

8. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

Agni: Please visit this :
www.barzakh97.webs.com or www.facebook.com/barzakh97

9. What can the fans expect to see from you in the future?

Agni: Sorry I do not have fans but we have a lot of friends. because for me it is the designation word fans for a big band. What I expect is to tour in Europe, U.S.A and around the world to get to meet up with friends in a party metal music. Wait for our debut album #4 in the year 2014! \ m /

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

Agni: I just wanted them to understand what we play than the concept of our music, the lyrics and the sound output quality of course.

11. Any last words?

Agni: Yeahhhh thank you for the interview Natalie Perez (True Female Metal!) And sorry if there are readers who do not like my answer in this interview and we are Barzakh! Hails! \m/
