Blender-uppers THE TELLING have blended together the uniqueness when it comes to their particular styling of music. A handful of single's have become available, with many more songs in the works already. They just want to share their music with all, and play as much as possible when the time comes. The band chats of their music, beginning's and what's next.
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
The Telling is based out of Dublin, Ireland. We were formed at the end of 2018 when founding members Shane Counter and Colm McElarney had finished some dep work for another band. After some jamming and exploring some creative impulses, some demos started taking shape, Grasping at Tomorrow, Summer Field and Don’t Let Go, as they are known now. We shared them across social media and friends to see if anyone would be interested in our blend of music, before we knew we had our line up with, Paul Ames on Drums, Simone Pujia on Bass, Lindy Loo on Vocals, Colm McElarney on Keys and Shane on Guitar.
Not long after completing our line-up we had our first gig sell out in Dublin in October 2019, we gained a lot of interested a were placed second in the Irish Daily Mirrors Bands to watch for 2020.
When Covid hit the world, it naturally crushed the live performance industry, but we kept moving forward with writing and recording and released music and a small documentary series. Mid 2020 Shane made the decision to pursue other projects and that is When Tommy Pasquariello joined The Telling on Guitar.
Currently we are still writing and recording pieces and awaiting the easing of restrictions in Ireland to get back into the recording studio to release more awesome tunes.
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
Unfortunately, there is no epic story behind the name or clever anecdote, when we were discussing a name for the band, we wanted something that gave an aura of Luxury and epicness something simple and easy to remember, we didn’t agree on anything. As a default we fell onto The Telling purely as we had gig approaching with no name for the band. It was on the to do list to review the name after and to change it when we get something better. However, it has stuck with us.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
The Telling is based out of Dublin, Ireland. It has a fantastic music scene, no shortage creative musicians, poets and artists. There are too many great bands on the scene here to name. Checkout Garageland Ireland for a multitude of amazing bands and solo performers.
4. How would you describe your style?
Our style is unique to the band members, as all members of the band come from different musical backgrounds each member’s touch creates a unique blend music, resulting in funk infused anthems and colossal sound stories.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
We have released five singles so far with many songs in progress, the songs we have released so far are in different styles, we have a pop/rock waltz with “A Summer Field”, Funk Rock with “Your Favourite Song” A song of temptation with “The Wolf”, a song reflection in “Take the time” and finally an epic journey through time with “Grasping at Tomorrow”.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
Yes, We have many songs in the pipeline all at various stages, primarily we are waiting for restrictions in the Republic of Ireland to ease to allow us do our final vocal recordings for 2 tracks, we are recording other tracks also and writing new ones.
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
Naturally COVID has played a massive part in our most recent plans, but we are hoping to fill our calendar with dates as soon as live entertainment is permitted. Until then it is very hard to make plans like that.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
At the moment our aim is to share our music far and wide and get as many gigs as we can. In the meantime, there is no shortage of creative idea’s that we are pursuing.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
I would like to think everyone will find something that they can like and relate to in our music, be it a melody to tap your foot to or a story that brings back distant memories.
