LOYA - Heptapod

For one person to be at something for thirteen years and counting, still experimenting, with everything available, as far as music genres go says a lot. LOYA is one of those musicians, well artists, as he has created this LOYA experimental project of music, combining the likes of a few genres, such as dark pop, dream pop, some essence of emo and regular pop. His style after hearing his recent efforts of "Heptapod", brought on so many other similar artist within these same genre tactics. For instance, other artists in the up-and-coming sense, or those who are least still fresh and anew, are Johnnie Guilbert, Til Death Do We Part, and Social Repose. These acts, being a lot like to that of LOYA.

With that said, LOYA's track "Heptapod", not only was released as an official single, to the upcoming album "Komaglass", out soon enough, but said single also received an official music video to follow suit. The video depicts KOYA the artist, singing, as various scenes showcase themselves in black/white or white/black, with middle pieces being himself, decked out in make-up that is a lot like Social Repose crossed with classic artist David Bowie. Even David Bowie's styling for that matter as well. LOYA is a lot like the classic artist, both visually and material-wise with music creativity and what not.

In any case though, LOYA's track "Heptapod", has already what it needs for being a single of growth and development, off an upcoming album that will make itself known. The track just builds itself upward, making the music portrayed, be cryptic, yet playful. It's energized, catchy, so much so  you will likely find yourself dancing along to it. Vocalization wise, meets the music at its core, making the two intertwine together, to blend in a way that makes the music more noticeable yet flawless.

If upbeat, catching, and different, is what you prefer than LOYA is the artist to seek out. His music is unique and very original, but similar in some ways also. Surely more will come from such an up-and-comer whose, music will take notice, by the masses, in little to no time at all. At least that is how it is playing off with a track like "Heptapod".

Daxton - In Verses

Daxton's full-length album known as "In Verses", came out just this month, on one of the days that is just not good, according to some, April 13th, in other words, Friday the 13th! What kind of luck would that be for an act to do, but in any case it worked in Daxton's favoring, as this album has quite a lot to say about it.

Opener "I Don't Mind", kicks things off, rather nicely for the album, as it is built upon catchy riffs done by the guitar working's, whilst the vocal chords, do their share, keeping everything in harmony, yet sounding very decent to say the least. Following this track comes "Strange Little Creature", that keeps the energy in check, making the momentum of everything occurring to be very frank yet grounded as far as the music goes. "Power and the Glory", is next, as are other notable tracks, like "Water Goes Dry", "Sanctuary" and Ball and Chain". These other tracks, doing as the opening tracks had done, except these are more in-depth, keeping everything more upbeat, but on a finer leveling.
Like, it's as if, the material used, is put to good efforts, making it sound crisp and clear as possible. Daxton's style sounds very modernized, blending in well with a lot of the other rock acts in existence currently. "In Verses", is just a very thought out type of album, that builds upon the material at hand.

Surely a little growth and development, from this release, will see great things rise from an act like this one. Their material is catching, upbeat, has various riffs, solos, with an array of spunk, that makes their material  flow endlessly really. It's just how Daxton's album that is "In Verses", plays along with its source material. Should be how a band can work its craft as it carries onward into the next level of movement.

Matthew Grant says New Movement is Set in Start Mode with New Single Out and About

Matthew Grant is an up and coming R&B, hip hop, rap artist, who's mind is set on wanting to change the world, with just one track alone, titled "King For A Day". Matthew Grant himself goes into discussion about this single, his movement by it, and some backstory into himself as an artist.

1. When and why did you start playing?

I started playing when I was about 11 years old. I actually don’t know why I started playing I was kind of drawn to it.

2. Which instruments do you play?

I play the piano and the Hammond organ.

3. What was the first tune(s) you learned?

So at 11 I was playing the organ and my little tiny church in Kansas City so I’m pretty sure it was a hymn and probably not played very well either.

4. Is your family musical?

Not really. My dad played the string bass and the alto sax in high school but that’s about it.

5. Describe your family member's musical interests and abilities.

Well my dad and mom loved soul music and jazz that really made a huge impact in my music. One of my best memories is when I was younger my 3 older brothers and I would have “east coast, west coast WWF Matches” me and my oldest brother loved east coast rap and my two middle brothers loved west coast rap so we would tag team wrestle. We would tape all the video count downs from BET and MTV on VHS so we could watch them later without commercials.

6.Which musicians do you admire and have learned from and why?

There are so many. I guess my top 3 would be James Brown, Marvin Gaye and Otis Redding. James Brown for his confidence, his stage presence was like no one you had ever seen. Marvin Gaye for his ability to write and produce songs that are timeless. Otis Redding for his vocal ability. In one song he would go from a smooth sound and switch his voice up to this raspy soulful emotional amazingness.
7. What would you say your songs are about and why?

I guess the best way to describe my songs is in this phrase “everybody’s song”. My life’s goal is to write music that can be everybody’s story.

8. Speaking of which, tell me about your new single called "King for A Day".

It’s been almost like a dream come true. This song is near and dear to my heart and to see people react and share with the world what they would do if they were “King For a Day” has been phenomenal . This song kind of came from a culmination of not only my personal experiences, but also watching day to day life in society. With all of that floating in my head I realized I needed to do something. I don’t have a lot of money but I do have a voice. So I wrote a song to challenge people to think about how we could make this world better. It was really that simple. The thought that if you had all the resources you needed for one day to change the world what would you do? I just want people to think about how we can do better to make the world better.

9. Will this song come off an upcoming EP or album, or just remain as is a single?

I’m not sure right now so we will just say it’s a single.

10. What about an accompanying video to go along with said single?

I do have an acoustic version of this song that I shot a video for with a really talented director here in LA named Brandon Jermaine.  As for an official video for the main version, I can’t say for sure, BUT I have a notebook full of ideas for what I want it to look like and be about. So let’s just say I’m planning for it and it’s going to be great!

11. Do you have any other works out and about, as far as releases of material go?

No not at the time. "King for a Day" is my baby. Don’t worry, I got some really nice songs that I cant wait to share with the world.

12. What plans do you have set for this year?

My biggest plan is to get "King For a Day" on the radio and internationally recognized. Also I want to start the movement "King for a day Challenge". This is were people do good deeds to make the world a better place. Could you imagine if this caught on like wild fire around the world? It could really bring about change!

13. Where do you see yourself as Matthew Grant in 5 years from now?

In 5 years I would love to be a house hold name. When people think of Soul music in the 21st century Matthew Grant is the first name that comes to mind.

14. If you could run into yourself of the past of you starting out as a musician, what would you say to yourself and why?

Pay more attention to the greats. Start young so you could be a better musician.

15. Can you express anything else you have not had the chance of saying to us?

Please go and do something nice for someone today. Go and make somebody’s day brighter!

DOAN SAYS STUPIDITY KILLS AND THAT'S JUST FINE

Progressive alternative metalheads DOAN have an album out there titled "Stupidity Kills", with more music in the works, along with shows and much more! The band goes into chatter about this album, themselves, and the future!

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

DOAN is a progressive alternative metal band from Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Formed of Diane Thibault at vocals, Olivier Roy on the drums, André Labrecque on bass and Nicholas Roy on guitar, they first established in 2011 as a cover band in the hard rock, alternative metal and post grunge musical styles, they interpret songs of various bands from Alice In Chains to Creed with the likes of Royal Blood, Alter Bridge, Rage Against The Machine, Godsmack and many others. Bearing the name Ghettoblaster at first, they changed their name for DOAN in 2017 to dedicate themselves more seriously to their own compositions.

All this change started back in 2014 when guitarist Nicholas presented a song to the other band member's. It became the song titled "Madness or Reason". From there they began to write songs together until they decided it was time to make an album.

With their first album "Stupidity Kills", they are ready to rock the stage and look forward to making you listen to their music

Diane Thibault:

Singer, author and musician (guitar). She has always been passionate of music and open to any musical styles. She has been practicing her passion for more than 20 years doing some shows with various musicians in various styles. Now as the lead singer for the band DOAN, her main goals are to create and have fun while doing all this very seriously.

Nicholas Roy:

Guitarist, back vocal and composer. Growing up in an environment where the music was always very present without being surrounded by musicians. At 16 years old, he began to play electric guitar aiming at following the tracks of his idols James Hetfield from Metallica and Scott Ian from Anthrax. He has been a member of various cover bands as well as one of the founder of the Montreal hardcore band Xplicit Noize with whom he recorded 4 albums and made hundreds of shows in Canada and Europe. Now guitarist for DOAN, he’s totally devoted to it.

Andre Labrecque:

Bassist, back vocal, author and composer. He has been practicing his passion for more than 35 years. Approximately one decade of learning with different garage band and then another decade with more serious bands. For more than 5 years, he did a whole lot of bar gigs. Now bass player for DOAN with the first album, he can’t wait to make it back on stage.

Olivier Roy:

Drummer, very open to various musical styles but more into the metal and hard rock. He bought his first drum kit when he was 15 years old and since then he did several shows with different cover bands. Roadie for the band Xplicit Noize for a few years, he participated to the two European tours they did back then. Now drummer for the group, he dedicates itself totally to DOAN.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

DOAN is simply the first letter of each name of the band members.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

We’re in Montreal, Canada. The music scene is not easy for a new band like us, we have to work real hard to get trough. There’s lots of bands in Montreal and as I’ll make contacts, I’ll let them know about you and what you’re doing!

4. How would you describe your style?

Alternative metal is, we think, the best category that sums up the style of music we’re doing. It’s a melting pot of our influences that goes from progressive rock to metal while going through grunge and hard rock.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

We’ve just release our first album titled "Stupidity Kills". We’re hard working passionate people that are doing music seriously. We do things in a professional way, everything have to be as on point as possible but our number one rule is: we must have fun doing it!

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

Yes, we’re always working on new music!

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

Right now, this is our priority. We have 3 gigs in May, 17th in Montreal, 19th in Ottawa and 26th in Lévis. We’re actively looking to book more gigs and there’s a small France tour into talk.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

Making sure to be heard and seen the most possible and keeping new songs coming.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

Our album is available on every digital platform and on our web site, the download is free. On the merch side, we have toques, CD’s and t-shirts are coming. A merch store in gonna be soon up and running on our site. For now, the only way to get merch is to come see us live!

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

We want them to remember the emotions it brings to them, that what music is all about isn’t it?

Villes' Dominic Talks of The Other Side and The Cure of It!

Singapore post-hardcore band, Villes, have not only released a few singles off their debut full-length album "The Cure", but have an album cycle tour set in play, titled "The Other Side Tour", with other forms of planning to occur as well. Frontman vocalist Dominic talks of the single's, album, and some insight into the band as well.

1. First of all, we would like to know about the formation of the band. When and how was it formed? Do you think the band name "Villes" perfectly describes your music and philosophy?

Dominic: The band as a whole go way back as 4 of us, aside from MJ, were in the same secondary school. Bryan and I bonded over heavy music (especially breakdowns) that bands like Parkway Drive, Enter Shikari etc. would put out.

So one day in 2011, I started a conversation with him about starting a band together. It was shocking to him, as it never occurred to him that I had any musical talent whatsoever (I still don’t), but we’ve never looked back ever since.

We used to come up with a random meaning every time someone asks us that question. But to be honest there's not much of a connection, we just thought it sounded like a cool name! It means "cities" in French and coincidentally playing in Villes has brought us to many different cities around the world!

2. Now tell us something about "The Cure", and the lyrical themes behind each track. What are the ideas you wanted to put across?

Dominic: The songs in "The Cure" were written to address/come up with solutions to "problems" that myself and the people close to me have encountered. From battles with drug abuse to losing a loved one to cancer. Throughout those ordeals, I felt that people always searched for a cure.

3. Why did you think that your latest single "The Other Side" was the right choice to make into a single release?

Dominic: When the album was done, we all set down to decide which songs we’d want to put out as singles. All of us decided on the 3 that we wanted (Don’t You Worry, The Fear Generation and The Cure). "The Other Side" was something we all decided would have been a great follow up to the those 3 just because it’s a song that speaks about "the other side of a coin".

4. How did you get in touch with Ocean Grove's Luke Holmes for "The Other Side"? Why go with that band in particular?

Dominic: We met Ocean Grove on the New Blood, Old Tricks tour in Australia a few years back and they were just the best dudes ever. Whilst writing "The Other Side", Bryan came up with a really groovy bridge and breakdown and we couldn't think of a better person than Luke.

5. You will be heading out on "The Other Side Tour", going across 4 countries, so what have you done to prep yourselves for this trek?

Dominic: Outside of the standard practices that we do, because Mark (our bassist) is not able to make 2 of the shows. We had to find replacements to session for us, which meant booking more rehearsal slots so that was quite a fun, but tiring ordeal! Coming from the heat of Singapore, we also always like to check the temperature of the countries we go to while hoping and praying that it's winter or in a somewhat colder season.

6. What will the set list look like as far as material goes both old and possibly new?

Dominic: Without giving anything away, the setlist consists mostly of the songs in the album along with 1 or 2 old songs.

7. Does the band have any new music in the works?

Dominic: After this tour, we plan to go into the studio to write and record new stuff! But nothing's set in stone as of yet.

8. How do you promote your band and shows?

Dominic: We usually do so through our social medias as well as promotional videos here and there. However, whilst doing a promotional video for the tour, we took to the streets and gave out fliers to passer-bys it was hilarious!

9. Can you describe your show, visually and musically for us?

Dominic: I think the 5 of us use Villes as an outlet for venting all the nonsensical happenings in our lives, with that, what we hope to show and give to our listeners, and I mean this in the sincerest way, the best fucking show one could go to.

10. After this tour wraps-up, what other plans do you have for this year?

Dominic: NO CLUE! :D
