Dawn Of Morgana says They Want the Music to Be Hummed for Days On End

Dawn Of Morgana is a symphonic metal band from the sunny state that is California. Having formed not that long ago the band went straight ahead to write and record for their latest EP release called "Revelations"! After that release they have plans to do some showcases between now into the next year! For now, expect some word of mouth from the band themselves, as they disclose as to how the EP came about, down to how they got started in the music genre of choice.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

We were formed several years ago with the intention of this being a home recording project. However, when I solidified the line up, we decided to take it a bit farther and become a live, touring act. I (Jared Deaver) have a death metal background and used to play guitar for Deeds of Flesh, Severed Savior and Impaled. Our other guitarist, Karl Metts has a metal background as well being the guitarist and front man for local Sacramento band, Silvara. He has also toured with Embrace the End. Our drummer, Cory Valdez was in the local Sacramento death metal band, Psypheria. Our keyboard player Sarah Ireland has an extensive musical background and is an accomplished pianist. Our singer, Aleen Nova is mainly a Symphonic metal singer but has a musical theater background as well. Our bass player Jack Gibson is currently the bassist for thrash metal legends Exodus.

2. What's the origin of the band's name?

Morgana is the welsh name for Morgan. Morgan is my daughters name. She was born with a cancerous tumor so I created this project and named it Dawn of Morgana to symbolize the birth of Morgan. My intention was to use this project as an outlet to write about my experience with her illness.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local acts you could recommend?

We hail from the Sacramento California / Bay Area. The music scene is decent here and has become better in recent years. We play a lot of shows with another local Symphonic metal band called Discordia and there is another one out this way called Graveshadow. Both are great bands!

4. How would you describe your style?

We call it Symphonic metal. It's similar to bands like Epica and Nightwish. We have some pretty heavy death metal elements but try to stay true to the Symphonic metal side.

5. You released your latest EP "Revelations". What can someone who has never heard of you before expect when listening to said release?

They can expect three professionally recorded and produced songs consisting of Symphonic metal elements with some blatant death metal parts. They will be introduced to Aleens vocal styling's which are melodic, memorable and beautiful. They will hear some technical guitar work at times with some heavy, crushing riffs and melodic solos. The keyboards and piano sections are intricate, well thought out and add dimension to the songs. They will hear some fast, technical drumming that doesn't overpower the music. The songs are heavy, slow and melodic yet fast and technical in certain areas. The music is memorable and entertaining and will hopefully leave the listener wanting to hear a lot more!

6. What was the process like writing and recording for this EP "Revelations"? Why should people go forth and check it out?

The writing process typically consisted of me writing riffs and tracking ideas at home. Sarah and Aleen would come over to my home studio and help polish the different parts. I utilized Superior Drummer and Pro-Tools to help get a good skeleton of the songs prior to working with Cory on the drum sections. Typically, I would revisit the songs numerous times and make small or sometimes big changes and additions to the arrangements before making a final decision.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

We are playing a couple local shows in Sacramento this year. One on July 29th at On the Y and one on August 5th at the Boardwalk. We plan to do some traveling next year and start touring the US towards the middle of 2018.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

We would like to do some festivals and tours in the future and are currently working on writing a full length album.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

You can hear us on most social media outlets such as Spotify, iTunes, Amazon Music, Pandora radio etc. We sell copies of the EP as well as shirts and stickers on our website at www.dawnofmorgana.com.

10. What is it you'd like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

I hope they can walk away remembering something about the music.  It is my hope they will be whistling, humming or singing a chorus that gets stuck in their head for days on end.  We want our CD to be the one you leave in the car cd player for weeks on end.  We want the fans to keep coming back and hearing new things each time they listen.  Mostly, I hope they listen and get a good feeling of satisfaction from the songs.
