Requiem has announced it's disbandment due to the frontman vocalist Steven Juliano retiring from music, giving the following message upon his personal Facebook page -

"How do I go about writing the toughest post in my entire life?

I knew this day would come. As all things in life, everything must come to an end sometime. Yet, you never really know when that moment will hit you. Sometimes it's like some old ache in your knees, and you feel it coming for years and years, and other times it suddenly just hits you; like being sucker punched in the back of the head.

For me, it was some fat boxer named, "Time".

I would rather not do some profound, long gobbledygook tale of my life. Most of you well know I've been singing since I was eight years old doing musical theater. And for the past twenty years of my life, I have been doing this "band thing". Well, the time has come to close that door for good. Not just spouting rubbish, like I am no longer doing Requiem. No, there is more to it.

I am completely retiring from music.

It feels strange saying that since I'm not "that" old, although old-age is figurative, depending on who you ask. Huh, go figure.

I lived out my dreams. Saw the world. Met so many amazing people that it honestly still blows my noggin. I look back on what I did with what I had, and can't believe it all really happened... and it all flew by like some big, epic blur. Music was life. And I am grateful for the retrospection.

I am now starting a new chapter as a professional writer. As a regular guy with a regular job who looks very regular if you saw him walk past you. You probably wouldn't think twice he is so... regular. But the memories will always be there swirling inside my dome. Oh, you can never forget this kind of stuff... no-sir-reeeee!

And what a wonderful dream it all was. I still pinch myself. Yup, it was real alright.

Holy moly was it real.

Love,
Steven Juliano

Thank you: Monsta Zero, Fall Out, The Silence, I Am Ghost, Requiem for the Dead, and Requiem"

Swedish metal kings Amon Amarth will unleash their 10th studio album, Jomsviking, via Metal Blade Records (North America)/Sony Music (International)! Jomsviking - the band's first concept record in their storied career - tells a tragic tale of love and revenge, backed by the Swedes' trademark melodic, anthemic metal, which was produced and mixed once again by Andy Sneap (Megadeth, Testament, Accept) and also features special guest session drummer Tobias Gustafsson (Vomitory). The epic original story is set in the world of the Jomsvikings, the legendary order of mercenary Vikings.

As front-man Johan Hegg explains: "The Jomsvikings were a shadowy and legendary sect of Viking mercenaries, as shrouded in myth now as they were when they fought across Europe and the Middle East. Ruthless and deadly warriors who fought for the highest bidder, their code was simple: Show no fear. Never retreat. Defend your brothers, and when called upon, avenge their deaths. I felt we were finally ready to use their story as the jumping off point for an Amon Amarth album. The Jomsvikings and their world is the background for the story of a young man that is in love with a girl but unfortunately she's being married off. He accidentally kills a man when this happens and he has to flee - but he swears to have revenge and win her back. He can't let go of the past. He feels that he's been wronged and his life has been destroyed. The way the story evolves is not a happy story."

By far their most ambitious project to date, Jomsviking is available for pre-order in various formats now at ‪amonamarth.com.

TRACKLISTING:

 1. First Kill
 2. Wanderer
 3. On A Sea Of Blood
 4. One Against All
 5. Raise Your Horns

Johan Hegg will be spinning "First Kill" and his own playlist at two public appearances in New York City and Los Angeles: the NYC event will be held at St. Vitus Bar on Feb. 2nd at 9PM, while the LA event will be held at Grill 'Em All on Feb. 9th at 5PM.

As X JAPAN lay down tracks in a Los Angeles studio for their as-yet-untitled album, Japan’s most iconic rock band have announced that the world premiere of the new documentary film from Passion Pictures--‘WE ARE X’--will take place this week at the Sundance Film Festival. ‘WE ARE X’ explores the evolution, groundbreaking history and hopeful future of the land of the rising sun’s most legendary rock group. X JAPAN have sold 30 million singles and albums combined and continue to tour the world performing sold-out shows to massive arenas in 16 countries throughout the U.S. and Europe.

On Friday, January 22 at 9pm, YOSHIKI--songwriter, drummer, classically-trained pianist and the creative force of X JAPAN--will perform live with a string quartet for the first-ever Sundance Festival Base Camp party, presented by Canada Goose. YOSHIKI will headline the Festival Base Camp, a new outdoor venue located at Swede Alley, behind Main Street. Other artists confirmed to perform include Dan Deacon, Flying Lotus and Neon Indian.

“It’s overwhelming to see the full documentary ‘WE ARE X,’ says Yoshiki of X JAPAN. Stephen Kijak and John Battsek opened doors, which I shut and never intended to re-open.  I didn’t realize that on the other side, dark memories could co-exist with a meaningful future. Audiences will be a witness to our history and future."

Saturday, January 23 will mark the world premiere of ‘WE ARE X’ in the World Cinema Documentary Competition at Prospector Square Theater in Park City at 2:30pm. YOSHIKI and the film team will be on hand for the red carpet at 2:00pm and a Q&A after the premiere. ‘WE ARE X’ was created by the production team behind the Academy Award- winning film Searching For Sugarman: producer John Battsek (Passion Pictures) alongside renowned director Stephen Kijak (Stones In Exile and Scott Walker: 30 Century Man-- (executive produced by David Bowie). From X JAPAN’s massive success (over 30 million albums, singles and videos sold) and sold-out tours worldwide, ‘WE ARE X’ chronicles the triumphs and tragedies of this legendary quintet who will never give up. On Sunday, January 24, YOSHIKI will perform live at the ASCAP CAFÉ at Sundance at 4:00pm. For the full Sundance 2016 schedule for performances and screenings of ‘WE ARE X,’ see the grid below.

X JAPAN initially split up in 1997 after playing their fifth New Year’s Eve show at the 55,000-capacity Tokyo Dome; they have now sold out the Tokyo Dome a record 18 times. The group reformed in 2007 and have released three singles: “I.V.” in 2008, “Jade” in 2011 and “Born To Be Free” in late 2015. They’ve been touring worldwide ever since--and in October 2014, the group performed their debut Madison Square Garden show in New York before announcing the new album and ‘WE ARE X’ film releases slated for 2016.

X JAPAN is: YOSHIKI (drums/piano/composer), TOSHI (vocals), PATA (guitar), HEATH (bass), SUGIZO (violin/guitar) alongside their fallen brothers HIDE (guitars, 1987-1997) and TAIJI (1986-1992).

A new project from members of various projects has come together to form heavy metal act Outerburst. Who have been hard at work writing and recording for their first mini album titled "Phase A: Kaishi" this mini in short an EP captures the essence that is this project. They are a heavy metal act, playing heavy metal music at its most possible fashion. The sound isn't half bad, having the instruments be crafty and creative, while the vocals chime in to bring it together as a whole. Each of the tracks on this release is quite good, for instance "Nightmare" and The Crows", these two song selections are the ones that stand out the most when it comes to this release. The rest of the material isn't that far off but these songs just make it more interesting. In close, Outerburst has something to start off with, that will surly lead into further material, that will be just as interesting as this release ended up being, if not better perhaps?

Fans of all-girl Japanese rock group BAND-MAID showered drummer Akane with piles of drumsticks last month, delivered from several countries around the world in support of her recent injury which stopped her from touring to support the band’s latest CD, New Beginning. After 2 months of reduced activities, Akane posted a photo this week to her Twitter account with some of her favorite sticks, which were autographed with get-well messages from her fans.

Akane serves as BAND-MAID’s leader, and her absence from performing during the release tour took a tough emotional toll on the dedicated performer, who can be seen below practicing drums by covering Maximum The Hormone’s “Benjo Sandal Dance”.

Akane's message to fans: “I took a break from drums for 2 months because of the injury. I received many sticks with warm, encouraging messages from my masters overseas! Your words uplifted me and I was able to push through! Thank you so much!” (Translated from Japanese) https://twitter.com/achi_bandmaid/status/688019609925058560

Nervosa will be coming to the U.S. hitting the West Coast during the months of February through March. In doing this, they have launched a crowd funding campaign by Go Fund Me, to help them pay for touring expenses, international flights, gas and transport costs, etc. They have posted the following message in regards to this campaign;

"This Crowdfunding is to pay for some of the tour expenses. The tour will start at the beginning of February and will continue til mid March.

We are in need of covering the international flights, gas and transport costs, as the promoters can't help us with this part unfortunately.

We set a small goal, which would help us buy a cheap van to travel during these 2 months of tour. Whatever more we can get it will be used to pay for the flights (900 USD per flight), gas, parking, and so on.

We are offering some little perks:

Stickers: $5 + delivery
Photo Signed by all members: $10 + delivery
Poster Signed by all members: $20 + delivery

Special items:
Dinner with the band: $200
Location Davis, CA
Only 6 available

Personalized Video with acknowledgement & greetings: $100

Please get in touch with the receipt of your donation so that we can provide your perk!

To give you a quote of delivery we need your full address including your zip code/postal code.

We can't wait to meet you on the road! Tickets will be on sale soon!"

Metalcore band Trace Your Steps has released a video for their track "Animal (Creature Of Habit)" from their upcoming album Beating Hearts and Uncertainty which is due out this Spring. France's It Came From Beneath got their start in 2010, releasing their debut EP, first LP and follow-up EP "The Last Sun". It consists of 5-tracks that blends together metalcore, deathcore, and hardcore, all of the core aspects, into one, to create It Came From Beneath's sound and style. Opening things up is the title track "The Last Sun", which brings out their abilities quite well. The next set of tracks does the same including a cover song of Iggy Azalea's song "Work", does the trick, while other tracks done by these guys like "Broken End" recaptures their heaviness with source of styling. Like the instruments and vocal chords, really work well together, having various riffs, breakdowns, just downright heavy duty rawness that keeps the music flowing. Surly these guys follow along the lines of other such acts as Oceano, Thy Art Is Murder and even Fit For An Autopsy.

Just one month after the release of their alternate-future album Showa 90, URBANGARDE members have revealed even more artistic projects for the start of 2016.

URBANGARDE vocalist Yoko Hamasaki will release her first book of prose titled Bara Iro No Jinsei (“Rose-Colored Life”) on February 23, 2016. The book will collect her essays from Tokyo’s Rooftop magazine, with topics of her personal past from her youth leading to her experiences with URBANGARDE.

Yoko speaks candidly in 40 essays, some written specifically for this edition, about her love for classical ballet, her childhood belief in Santa Claus, traumas from her personal life, and her fascination with mysteries and ghosts. Bara Iro No Jinsei will also chronicle the history of URBANGARDE from her unique point of view and a selection of exclusive photos.

URBANGARDE’s co-vocalist Temma Matsunaga recently starred in an episode of NHK BS Premium’s Edogawa Rampo Tanpenshu, an anthology series featuring the works of noted Japanese mystery writer Edogawa Rampo. Temma stars alongside Hikari Mitsushima (Gomen ne Seishun!, Moteki, Woman) in a story about a bookstore murder. Temma recently released his own book, Jisatsushatachi (“Selfie People”), a compilation of short stories, essays, and poems about the dark sides of modern life in Tokyo.

URBANGARDE is currently touring Japan in support of Showa 90, with stops in all major cities planned through May 2016.

Sumerian Records marks its 10 year anniversary with a four week tour, dubbed the Sumerian 10 Year Tour, featuring five of the Los Angeles labels’ bands: Born of Osiris, Veil of Maya, After The Burial, ERRA and Bad Omens.

“Born of Osiris, Veil of Maya and After The Burial have all played a crucial role in the new wave of progressive, heavy music and in the pedigree of Sumerian,” said label founder, Ash Avildsen.  “They are some of the most genuine, hard-working and talented musicians I have had the privilege to work with. I vividly remember first seeing all three of them play together at a tiny legion hall in a small Illinois town when Sumerian was less than a year old and they were all unsigned. I can proudly say that without Born of Osiris, Veil of Maya and After The Burial together on the label, Sumerian would not have become the entity it is today. I am honored to have this Midwest menagerie carrying the 10 Year Tour and excited for our newcomers ERRA and Bad Omens.  Thank you to all of the fans who support the bands and the music. Without you, none of this would be possible. See you in the pit.”

Los Angeles rockers VAMPIRES EVERYWHERE have teamed up with Bloody-Disgusting to premiere their newest single, a haunting cover of Hozier’s breakout hit “Take Me To Church,” featuring CHELSEA GRIN’s Alex Koehler.  This is the second piece of new music to be revealed off of the band’s forthcoming full-length, ‘Ritual’ which will see a release date of March 18, 2016.

Vocalist Michael Orlando explains, “The first time I heard Hozier sing ‘Take Me To Church’ I knew I had to cover it! I also knew I needed one of my homies to collab with me. The first person that came to mind was Alex Koehler (Chelsea Grin), he's one of my best friends and his scream is evil as fuck. I've been wanting to collab with him for years and I'm beyond excited with the outcome. The lyrics to this song are amazing and I'm thankful I was able to put my spin on it.”

The forthcoming album ‘Ritual’ was produced by Matt Good [From First To Last, DRUGS], mixed by David Bendeth [Bring Me The Horizon, Paramore], and will serve as the follow up to 2012’s ‘Hellbound and Heartless.’ The full tracklist and artwork for ‘Ritual’ can be seen below.
