Mysterious go getters Solace In Nightmares or SiN, have been hard at work writing and recording for their debut EP, since releasing their single "Succubus". The band has been making their rounds across the music scene, including getting a mention in an issue of Kerrang Magazine. Guitarist/backing vocalist Matt Seaborne, discusses the band, their new music, and the plans ahead.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

Matt: I met Luke from playing in previous bands, a lot of the time when TDLW played down the South West of England my band would be on the bill with them. Following that we started up this project with the fundamental ideas. We then had to find the rest of the members. Shawn and I first met when I was a fill in vocalist for his previous band, I had noticed that he wasn’t in a band anymore so out of the blue I called him one day with the idea of SiN and he was involved from day one. Josh and I had studied at the same college and I always knew he played guitar and we got on amazingly so again I asked him out of the blue to join the band. The band had already formed and released our debut track Succubus before Alex joined the band we were looking for a bassist and Shawn suggested Alex and from the initial first practice with him we knew he was the perfect member for the band. After this everything just fell into place and we haven’t looked back since.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

Matt: When the band started we wanted a name that could be abbreviated to SiN. I came up with the idea for the band being called SiN and Luke came up with Solace in Nightmares, which we all agreed was a fitting name for the band considering the genre and style.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

Matt: For a long time it’s felt like the music scene has been dying. I mean there would be massive bands playing tiny venues to like 10 people, for a long time it was soul destroying. Recently more and more people have been coming out to shows and supporting bands regardless of their style or image. With this new wave of bands coming out it’s bringing more and more people out to shows and it’s beautiful. There are so many great bands coming out of the UK at the moment the bigger bands like Fearless Vampire Killers & Ashestoangels are killing it. You also have a wave of up and coming bands like Saint [The] Sinner, The Dead Xiii, Roads to nowhere, Tonight we Fall, Beyond Recall and so many more killing it at the moment.

4. How would you describe your style? Which bands influenced your music?

Matt: With the style of our band we would say we are heavily orchestrated with so many different elements mixed within it this goes from metal to funk. There is a heavy classical influence behind our music. We all have such different music tastes that the influences could come from anyone like Danny Elfman to Crown The Empire to The Cure. It’s very difficult to pin point the influences behind our music, as there are so many.

5. What's your take on the new EP? Will your song for "Succubus" be included and or made into a video to accompany this release?

Matt: The new EP is something very different; we wanted every song to be very distinct in it’s own way. We think people will be expecting something really heavy from us given our past bands, we wanted to try something new and different and we couldn’t be more proud of what we have come out with. Succubus will be a part of the EP and we don’t know if it will ever get a video we will have to see how it would fit into the concept.

6. When can we expect to see the new EP to be released?

Matt: We haven’t announced a release date for the EP as of yet but all I can really say is people won’t be waiting too much longer.

7. You guys are an unsigned act, why did you prefer the DIY approach? Do you hope to get signed on someday? What should labels/zines/promoters know about your band? Why should they be interested in it?

Matt: As we are quite a new band we wanted to do everything ourselves to see how much we would be able to work it and push ourselves as much as we could. As far as what people should know about us is we aren’t your ordinary band, we have a taste for the theatrics and love to give it everything we’ve got in pretty much everything we do weather that’s playing shows, recording or playing video games.

8. Do you play live as well? How's your live activity so far?

Matt: We’ve only played a handful of shows as everything has been so focused on getting this release out. The shows we have played have been amazing every band we’ve played with have been so lovely and the crowds have responded amazingly to us even though we only have one song out.

9. What plans do you have for the rest of this year, leading right into this next year?

Matt: Other than getting the record/video out we have a couple of shows with Ashestoangels coming up in London and Bristol, which we are excited about. Other than that we should hopefully be on the road.

10. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

Matt: You can find us on ITunes, Spotify, YouTube and various other sites. We will have a merch store going up soon where you will be able to pick up some very interesting things with the release of the record.

11. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

Matt: I would love for a first time listener to go away thinking that we were something different. There is a mass amount of the same bands coming out every day releasing the same songs with the same formulas. I feel there is something different with us that people may be able to relate to. I also hope people will have these songs stuck in their heads for days and show everyone to build a vast army of SiN.

12. Anything else you would like to say or want to add on?

Matt: I just want to say thank you to everyone who has given us the time of day and everyone who has supported us along the way. So far it’s been an amazing ride and it’s only going to get better. On behalf of myself and the rest of SiN we couldn’t thank everyone enough! Catch you in a city near you! Peace! Matt.
