A Scare For The Wicked will assault and infect anything that comes in contact with their aggressive, scathing melody with daring lyrical context, that is layered on pure attack force! Guitarist Joe Moon discusses the band's latest EP release, newest additions, and plans for new material due out soon!

1. Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in A Scar For The Wicked, and how long the band has been together.

Joe: Hi there, I'm Joe Moon, I play guitar and am the main lyrical contributor for A Scar For The Wicked. We have been together for 5 years now, and have been on the scene for about 3 years.

2. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

Joe: We are based out of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada and we love the scene in our area, as the years go by the scene gets better and better, with awesome promoters and great talented local musicians. Some of our favorites would be;

-Volitile
-Deathrow Six
-Accursed Spawn
-A Darker Day
-My Shadow
-Fumigation
-Collider
-Endast
-Killitorus

and that's to just name a few of the talented bands in our area.

3. Tell me about your new EP.

Joe: Our new EP " THE NECROBUTCHER"  is a 5 track record filled with sinister creatures, zombies, giants and Necromancy, backed with some awesome death metal and 2 wretched vocalist.

4. Is there any story or concept behind the "The Necrobutcher" title?

Joe: Actually the title came from my little brothers gamer tag on Xbox360. I always thought it was a bad ass song title. So one day my bro and I sat down and wrote the lyrics for The Necrobutcher. As time progressed and the other songs were written, we felt that the title would not only be an awesome song title but a cool EP title as well, the ideas of the art, we could do with that title, really pushed into the "lets do this shit" category.

5. Select two songs from The Necrobutcher and what inspired the lyrics.

Joe: The first song I would pick would obviously be "The Necrobutcher". Its written about a dark sadistic Necromancer who is raising an army of the undead to fight wars against mankind. To slowly convert each living human into flesh eating mindless soldiers.Which in the end will help him destroy the world and life as we know it. Town after town and city after city the undead swarm the unsuspecting living like locusts, devouring everything in there path and growning the ranks of his dark and power full army of the damned.

Song number 2 will be "The Blood Ritual". This song I meant to put you into the eyes of a victim. First he is hunted down in a dark vacant ghost town by what seems to be an unknown number of hooded cloaked figures. Then after they catch him he awakes in this dark damp cellar filled with shadows, blood, and corpses. Until the cloaked figures come from the shadows to surround him and thus begins the blood ritual. A sacrifices for the dark lord himself.

6. Who produced "The Necrobutcher" and what was it like working with them?

Joe: Silver Wings Studios out of Montreal, Canada produced our EP. And it was an amazing experience. Jee and Jon are just great people that love what they do. You can just tell its not just about money or business with these guys. They work hard with bands to get the best possible outcome they can make. They go above and beyond expectations professionally and personally like I said before they are just wonderful people. So good in fact we have hired them for a whole list of things including management, public relations, video shoots, photo shoots, this place does it all. They work with you and your budget. Again I say its a great studio filled with very talented people.

7. Who did the cover art for The Necrobutcher and how much input did you have on it?

Joe: Jee from Silver Wings Studios did our artwork for us and we had a lot of input on it. He works with you every step of the way, to make sure your happy with the final product. He's very talented with what he does.

8. Why did you see an EP to fit instead of releasing a full-length album?

Joe: We  had recently acquired Nick Rodgers on drums and had pounded out some new material. We really just wanted to get something out that said "hey, were still here. We are evolving and this is what we sound like now". We really just wanted to show fans our new sound and show case our new drummer.

9. You went with the name A Scar For The Wicked, who is this "scar" and why is it wicked?

Joe: Its not so much of a who and why kinda thing. We just thought the name was really heavy. But if it were to mean anything it would be our music is the scar and our fans are the wicked.

10. What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)

Joe: Our song range in subject matter. But mostly fit along a common theme of darkness. The Necrobutcher is about a sadistic necromancer. Silence vile temptress is about viscous female vampires. The blood ritual is about a dark ritual to the devil. Surrounded by giants is about an acient race of beings awoken from the carelessness of humans, and within the rot is about slavery to our governments using rotting corpses as a medium to tell the story. So like I said it varies from song to song but it all shares a theme of darkness or evil.

11. Do you write your own songs? (Discuss the songwriting process in detail.)

Joe: Absolutely we write our own songs. The process goes as follows usually Adam (the main musical contributor) writes some riffs or full songs, then he programs them into guitar pro and sends the files to myself. Which I then transpose into cubase and change the midi files into instruments and we start from there. It makes for easy lyric writing and just gives us the whole scope of a song. We can then make changes as we see fit. It also allows us to program drums to each song and gives Nick a very good starting point for writing on his end. Now it doesn't always happen this way. Sometimes we all just sit together for a free write, or sometimes Adam and I sit down and write from scratch. But mostly Adam writes and we evolve the songs through each member till were happy with the outcome.

12. Who are your musical influences?

Joe: Oh our musically influences vary throughout us all. But there are a lot of common bands we all love some of which are;

-the black dahlia murder
-cannable corpse
-whitechapel
-carnifex
-all shall parish
-molotov solution

there are many many  more, but that's just to name a few.

13. Have you been playing any shows or done any tours for this year?

Joe: We have been playing a lot of shows this year. As of April of last year we've had like 1 or 2 shows a month. But lately we have slowed it down as we are now writing for a new album to come out in 2015.

14. How do you promote your band and shows?

Joe: We use Facebook a lot, also we are lucky enough to have great local promoters that help spread the word with flyers and other social media sites. We as well have 2 local radio programs that play a lot of local metal and promote our local scene. So shout out to Hammered Smashed Radio and Morning Metal on ckcu 93.1!

15. Can you describe your show, visual and musically for us?

Joe: Our shows are packed full of energy, we always try to involve the the crowd as much as possible. We definitely bring our A game when we play live. We always strive to recreate our EP because we want it to sound full and super tight.

16. What are your upcoming plans for this year?

Joe: Well being that its almost the end of the year, not a hole lot is planned. We have a few shows booked. But mostly we are concentrating on new material for our 2015 release.

17. What advice would you give to fellow bands, who want to do what you're doing?

Joe: The only advice we have is never ever give up. Always push forward. Respect your band mates and respect your scene and the promoters that work hard to get shows for you, there will always be haters no matter what. Don't let them get you down, for every person that doesn't like your music there is one does, so don't give up!
