Evolove's Lucy is One Hell of a Warrior!

Rock pop stars Evolove have been hard at work writing and recording for their debut full-length album "We Are The Warriors" releasing their single and video off it titled "Warriors". Frontwomen vocalist Lucy Levinsohn discusses about the single, the album, future plans and more!

1. Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in EVOLOVE, and how long the band has been together.

Lucy: My name is Lucy and I am the lead singer of EVOLOVE.  The band was started in 2009 by Billy and myself but the band really started moving in 2010 after we connected with Dave and Colby.  We added Andrew to the line up right before we started touring heavily in 2011.

2. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

Lucy: We are based out of Los Angeles, CA.  The rock scene here is really blossoming and some of our friends like Gemini Syndrome and Butcher Babies are making some real headway.  There are so many great bands here in LA, just to name a handful you should check out My Elysian, Vattica, 9 Electric, and Stitched Up Heart .

3. You released "Acoustic Sessions Vol. 1" will there be a Vol. 2 installment later on down the line?

Lucy: That is the plan but not sure when.  It will probably be sometime in between albums.

4. How does it feel to have written, recorded, and release your debut full-length “We Are The Warriors”?

Lucy: AMAZING!  The album is a real monument to all the work we have put in over the last few years as a band.

5. What changed most about the writing process from the EP releases onto this release?

Lucy: We really worked as a unit on the writing of this album.  In the past one of us would have an idea and bring it to the table for molding.  I would say 80% of this album was written with us together in a room, hashing ideas out.  Something else different about this album is that I brought in a couple friends to collaborate on lyrically on a few songs.  Since I usually do all the lyric writing sitting alone in my room it was nice to go out of my comfort zone.  My friend Shannon Nicole collaborated on “Burn” and “Never Let You Fall” and another another friend Joel Rutkowski lent his talents to the song “All For Something.”  It was a great experience working with other lyricists and seeing their process.

6. Can you tell me why you wanted to call this album “We Are The Warriors”? Where does the "Warrior" come in who are they and what do they symbolize and represent for you guys?

Lucy: The album title was inspired by the single “Warriors”.  The song is about the different challenges we are all facing as a generation and promotes the idea of finding strength in numbers.  Everyone has their own personal battles they are fighting and we believe that there is a Warrior within us all.

7. How did you assemble the band and the team who worked on the album?

Lucy: The band was already together and ready to go.  Our producer organized the technical aspects of recording.  After the album was finished we worked with a few different and uber talented mixers; Brian Virtue, Gerald Jans, and Gus Cyrns.

8. Who produced “We Are The Warriors” and what was it like working with them?

Lucy: Mikey Doling was our producer. He brought a ton of enthusiasm, positive attitude, and creativity to the table.  Mikey flew in from Japan and we had a very limited time for pre-production. We sat in a room for 3 days straight before recording and had an amazing time working on the songs. The album was all recorded within 2 weeks, a record time for EVOLOVE.

9. Who did the cover art for “We Are The Warriors” and how much input did you have on it?

Lucy: Our super talented friend Ryan Russell created all the artwork for this album cycle. He took inspiration from our logo and we absolutely love what he created.

10. What are your songs about this time around, are they different for this release or do you guys always discuss about the same topics for every release?

Lucy: I feel this album is the most personal collection of songs we have ever put together.  Our topics cover love, fear, hope, and a diverse multitude of everyday human emotions. There is definitely a constant theme of overcoming adversity and fighting for what you believe in.

11. Do you write your own songs? (Discuss the songwriting process in detail.)

Lucy: ABSOLUTELY!  We always write our own songs.  Other than the couple lyrical co-writes I mentioned earlier everything is always 100% EVOLOVE.

12. If you had to pick one song off “We Are The Warriors” to show someone to introduce them to your music, which would you pick?

Lucy: I think we chose to lead with “Warriors” for a good reason.  It is a great representation of who we are and how we sound.

13. What are your expectations for the album?

Lucy: I've learned not to make too many set expectations for myself or the band.  Our hopes for this album is that we can connect on a personal level with all our fans and make new ones along the way.  We hope our music will continue open doors to our future.  We embrace every new opportunity that comes our way.

14. What are your plans for playing shows and touring?

Lucy: We plan to be back to playing shows by the end of March.

15. How about the rest of 2014, what can be expected from you guys for this year?

Lucy: 2014 is about reestablishing our relationships with everyone we have met on our journey these past 3 years.  You can expect more videos, more music, and a whole lot more EVOLOVE.

16. Is that your final answer?

Lucy: YES!  Thank you so much for taking the time to interview me!
