Discarnate Motions Talks Demo and Debut Album

California metal act Discarnate Motions once known as Sign Of Sirin has been hard at work writing and recording for their debut album! They have gone on to release some demo recordings that will be on the concept debut album coming out sometime next year! The entire band got together to discuss the matters of the demo release and upcoming release!

1. What type of band are you?

We like to call ourselves a metal band, but we have been called "extreme melodic metal" by others, such as Metal Assault.

2. Can I get a backstory on the band/ band biography?

Jelena: Well, I started the band back in March of 2011 as a side project under the name Sign of Sirin in order to do a Japan Benefit show after some devastating storms hit them. Suddenly, it evolved and became a full-time project, after which I had to accrue more members who could devote their time more. I found Arron through mutual friends, who was the bassist first, then he became the vocalist! His friend Josh joined us on bass and then we connected with Alberto through the wonders of craigslist to do drums. Finally, we got Fernando to join us on 2nd guitar to complete our lineup. Eventually we came into a full group of committed musicians. We recently changed the name of the band to Discarnate Motions to better fit our vibe and lyrical content of the band as a group.

3. How did the band come to get the name Discarnate Motions? Does it have a meaning to it?

While in the midst of searching for a new name I, Arron, was reading a book called "Graves End" and stumbled upon the word discarnate. I fell in love with this word for its meaning. The motions of what can't be seen is scientific to some and supernatural to others. Each of us hold our own truth on the matter.

4. What lyrical theme do you guys use in your music? What message do you want to send?

It depends on the mood of what is going on really. What we are doing currently is a concept album which deals with the struggle of love and sanity. Our future material will be different no doubt. But it all goes back to the name and its meaning for us, there is no one truth on a planet of emotions.

5. What bands have influenced your band and its sound?

Jelena: That varies greatly for all of us! We each have vast musical tastes and differences, especially when it comes to personal inspiration. One band that I can say inspires all of us as a band is definitely Behemoth. And Gojira! We love their whole sound, look, vibe, their insane stage presence and shocking music videos!

My direct influences are lots and lots of old school death and black metal bands, especially Death, Opeth, Dissection, Carcass, Emperor, Arch Enemy, Amon Amarth, Hypocrisy... Peter Tagtgren of Hypocrisy/PAIN is my hero, I want to be just like him, I love everything he does. Tarja Turunen and Angela Gossow are also my heroines, they have shown me that you can be a badass woman in metal but still stay feminine and true to yourself. Folk music from around the world and tons of classical music are also a big influence on me, since I was little.

Josh: My influences would be Protest the Hero, Between the Buried and Me, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Sikth, and Rush.

Arron: I usually gravitate towards music that makes me feel something inside: Mushroomhead, Cattle Decapitation, Bjork, Twiztid, Iwrestledabearonce, etc. I really like lyrics that go into detail and are not afraid to be personal.

Fernando: My Biggest Influences: At The Gates, Krallice, Fallujah, Death, Dim Mak, The Contortionist, etc.

Alberto: Some Favorite drummers - Gene Hoglan, Igor Cavalera, John Bonham, George Kolias, Thomas Haake, Raymond Herrera,Vitek, Inferno, Nick Barker, The drummer from Krisiun, Paul Bostaph, Bobby Jazombek, Krimh, Pete Sandoval, Guy Harrison, Drummer of sybreed, and Mike Smith.

6. Can you tell me about this 3 song demo you're about to release?

It's the start of something honest. It took longer than we expected due to several reasons such as finance, school, work etc. Each song sounds very different from the next which reflects the rest of the album on it's variation.

7. Who is producing the it? How has the producer aided the recording process?

Jared Behrens of Crosstalk Studio, who has been a tremendous help and an overall badass producer. He worked with us on many occasions to get just the sound that we wanted, while remaining affordable, and has been just an all around great dude to hang out and chill with. We highly recommend him!

8. What label will be releasing it?

We are actually currently not signed to a label.

9. How would you describe the overall sound of this release?

Furious, dark, ethereal, with moments of bludgeoning brutality and moments of melodic beauty.

10. Can you talk about a few of the songs on this release how they came to be and the sound they represent?

All of the songs have their own meaning, both musically and lyrically. They will be part of a concept album.

11. When can we expect it to be released?

It's out! We have been looking forward to this!

12. You guys are also currently working in your full-length album what can you tell me about this?

Yes, as mentioned above this will be a concept album. As you may know for yourself, most of us go through one terrible heart-shattering breakup, and this album is all about learning to pick up the pieces and move on. Each song is representative of a step you must take, facing your demons, allowing yourself to feel the hurt and learning to let go, stop looking back and grow your own wings, relearning to fly and doing it for yourself.

13. When will that album be released?

We are aiming to release it around spring or summer next year in 2014.

14. What else can we expect to see from you guys for this year?

We will be playing a new song, never before heard, on our next show on December 14th at the Cobalt Cafe in Canoga Park. The show is actually an effort to help save this venue, and we hope to spread the word as much as possible!

15. Anything else you'd like to say or add?

Yes, thank you for the interview opportunity, and we hope you come on out and rage with us!!!!!!!
