January 2012

Whenever the combination of various musicians join forces it could be good or bad but in any case Fake Figures featuring members Russ Martin (Hotwire), guitarist Travis Miguel (Atreyu), guitarist Heather Baker (The Iron Maidens), bassist Bob Bradley (Scars of Tomorrow) & drummer J Po (Nightfall). Thus their EP debut "Hail The Sycophants" shows their musical ability in an instant.

"Perfect No One", opens up with fast driven guitars drum blasting beats that blend well with Russ Martin's vocal skills. Whereas "Something Deadly" has Travis and J Po doing the drum and guitar thing but with total style having it run smooth and heavy from start to finish. Other notable tunes "As We Drift", and "Let Them Bleed", features raw talent with flawless musical ability that stands out like no tomorrow for instance "As We Drift" its accompanied by a sooth piano melody that enforces that rock balland tone that really captures the music. Whilst "Let Them Bleed", is the band's leading single and brings their source of style to a closing point adding on more that we can expect.

Perhaps a full-length album in the making? We can only hope for the better.

Sempiterna is a progressive metalcore band from Belgium and with a motto like "For shits and giggles" they just have this to say "We’re all about making music and having fun. After the release of a full album, The Rapture, recorded at ‘Bat Productions’, our music became stronger, more brutal and faster." Find out their musical influences, who writers the songs and where they see themselves in five years.

1. Can you introduce each member of Sempiterna and tell me why did you want to call your band that? What does it symbolize for the band?

Sempiterna is a name we kept from the very first line up several years ago. After several names our first singer came up with it and it just kept sticking around. It basically means "everlasting" but it was not the meaning that made it the one to go with, it just sounds cool. xD

Today the band exists out of 5 members:

Luca:Guitar
Jesse:Drums
Sören:Vocals
Lars:Bass
Stein:Guitar

2. Where is the band from and what is the music scene like there?

We are all from Belgium and we live in different parts of the province of Limburg. Fortunately for us it’s not that big of a distance we have to make to play our tunes together. The music scene here is pretty great. We have a strong fan base and everywhere we play the people have treated us very nicely. Even competitive bands have shown us a great amount of respect.

3. What are your songs about? What specific themes do they cover?

Its depends on The Rapture we were working on stuff that could make people aware about conspiracies and how it would lead to some disturbing world destruction. On the new material we are going to dig a little deeper.

4. Do you write your own songs? Can you discuss the songwriting process in detail?

We do. The songwriting process starts mostly out of a guitar riff that Stein or Luca came up with. It always takes a while before we get some actual structure in there but Guitarpro is our friend!!! xD

5. Who are your musical influences? Who would you say inspires you the most when it comes to doing what you love?

We all love different styles of Metal and Hardcore but even in those two genres you have so much different styles it’s hard to really pin down on several bands but we mainly try to write something that we believe is our sound and push the boundaries within our limits.

6. How do you describe your music to people?

It’s hard to say because we write all of our music for ourselves and don’t try to please other people with stuff they like. Then again, we do a lot of stuff that a lot of people like, so that helps.

7. What image do you think your music conveys?

“Shits and giggles”

8. Tell me about your full-length album The Rapture, where did the title come from? Would you say that this album is a concept album or what is it about?

The Rapture seemed very appropriate for the concept we were working with mass destruction, world domination, and conspiracies. So that is the basically the concept that we worked with.

9. Where do you see Sempiterna in 5 years?

Hopefully still going strong with more friends and countries we could visit, evolve in our songwriting and performance, and most important 5 more years of fun.

10. Have you been writing any new material?

Yes we have! We are currently working on our second album and we are proud to say that the new material goes beyond all of our expectations. We still have a lot of work to do before we hit the studio. We try go that extra step beyond to really satisfy our songwriting needs.

11. What about when it comes to playing shows what are the crowd's like what keeps your blood pumping and you wanting to continue to play for an audience.

The harder they go mental, the more we like to do what we do. You really get a lot of energy from a crowd that completely destroys the venue and of course that is what we do on the stage as a result xD

12. What else can we expect from Sempiterna this year?

Well, there is the new album that needs to come out and hopefully some great shows and tours with more friends. But we try to keep our expectations on a normal level, so we can get really pumped when shit starts hitting the fan. XD

Remember in my previous post about slumbering with the guys and ghouls of Mattel's Monster High line? Well here is an update on the matter. Apparently the European and U.K. have gotten their share of bedding sets of what they like to call them as "Duvet Bedding" and has an assortment to choose from. Whereas the U.S. has yet to see one. The first two are commonly found on Ebay while the others are on other notable European/U.K. based websites. Take note that Walmart just late last year released a Monster High skullette logo backpack but it also works well as a pillow since some Justice's have discontinued to supply the Monster High brand.

Underworld the series that launched the vampire craze that exploded later on down the line with the Twilight series but the Underworld series was the original vampire series that presented Kate Beckingsale as warrior Selene a Death Dealer (vampire) in the first film released in 2003. 2006 saw the release of the sequel and then 2009 was the prequel to the first film. Now that many years have passed what will happen now?

Underworld Awakening is the fourth film in the series and brings back Kate Beckingsale with a ton of action and more blood than the previous counterparts could offer. Her character Selene with her lover Michael Covin played by Scott Speed whom does not make a reprising role in this installment has a portrayal of his character instead. The two are running from their lives trying to escape this sudden thing called “The Purge” which has involved the humans finding out about the vampire and lycan (werewolf) species risking their lives. But both are captured and taken to this establishment that wishes to find a cure but has other plans in place.

During her captivity Selene gives birth to a daughter called Eve played by The Secret Life of the American Teenager’s India Eisley who escapes her cell and releases Selene allowing her to make a run for it once more and she does it with total style of course. She flees the establishment only to be followed by an unknown person who is like her the two end up finding Eve and the three go to this hidden coven where an ambush is set and more powerful lyrcans attack.

Eve is kidnapped taken back to where she was first brought and kept an eye on for the time being while Selene wonders in what she has to do to save her daughter from any harm but is it already too late?

Overall Underworld Awakening has got the action but just hasn’t gotten the time as it’s a bit short handed not being as long as the previous films but still manages to maintain a powerful punch that outdraws anything but a possible fifth installment?

The time will tell….

"We are working on a NEW release. I wont say its for everyone , but its something we have been wanting to do for a LONG time. We will release more details in the form of MUSIC, since thats really what we do. But in the meantime, an interesting read from TRENT RENZNOR. We have gone from self-released , to Major label bread winners, to tax write offs and back to independenence and this may shed a little light on what being an ARTIST in the music industry today feels like. IMPENDING DOOM has released more details surrounding their release "Baptized in Flith." Avion Roe another band another dream but what sets this band apart from all the rest? Dallas, Texans Avion Roe released their debut full-length "The Art of Fiction" has one video out for the song "Who Am I..." and another on the way for the next single "The Difference Between Us". Why are they here and how do they keep up with their fans that have been there since day one. Frontman vocalist Evan Lester explains "I see four young men who will not let anything stand in their way. I hope when people listen they won't let anything stand in theirs."

1. Can you introduce yourselves and tell us what each of your roles in the band is and why did you want to call the band, Avion Roe?

Evan Lester - Vocals
Jordan Modro - Guitar
Sean Humphrey - Bass
Josh Cutlip - Drums

Evan: We wanted a name that would always have meaning to us. ROE stands for Rest Of Eternity, that’s how long we want this band to live on.

2. Give us a brief history of your band.

Evan: Our band started on Jan 4th, 2011. We had thought we would be a five piece band but when we flew Jordan down to try out we knew we had it. We were immediately four brothers. We released our full length record in spring and jumped on the Vans Warped Tour. We shot a music video for our first single 'Who I Am...' and then jumped on a national tour with Madina Lake and Me Talk Pretty. We have had two songs on MTV and are shooting our second music video next week. This band is only beginning to unfold.

3. The band is from Dallas, Texas so does that mean that local cows and horses helped write your debut full-length?

Evan: Ha-ha. Recording The Art of Fiction was such a cathartic experience; we tracked the whole record ourselves in our house. I started writing the album in 2009 and was so proud when we finished it. Our lives are on that record.

4. Where did the album title The Art of Fiction come from and what does it mean?

Evan: The Art of Fiction was a name we danced around with for a while. We actually named our CD before naming our band. The name stands as a reminder that sometimes fiction can be the most accurate reflection of reality.

5. Who writes the songs, what are they about?

Evan: I [Evan] write our songs. But I can’t take full credit, I couldn't do it without the rest of the band constantly challenging and pulling the best out of me.

6. How do you describe your music to people?

Evan: I try not to do that. I would let them listen and make their own judgments.

7. Who are some of your musical and non-musical influences?

Evan: The bands we like include The Used, Finch, Brand New, My Chemical Romance, Armor For Sleep and 30 Seconds to Mars changed our lives and I think are very present in our music. Our biggest influence is triumph. Rising from the ashes is the best feeling and that’s what this band is all about.

8. What image do you think your music conveys?

Evan: The image I see is four young men who will not let anything stand in their way. I hope when people listen they won't let anything stand in theirs.

9. How do you promote your band and shows?

Evan: AvionRoe.com is where we communicate to our fans everything we have going on so they can be involved as possible.

10. Describe your show, visual and musically.

Evan: Words can't do that. Come see us.

11. Do you have any shows or tours coming up that you'd like to inform us about?

Evan: Our first Dallas show will be South By So What. It is a huge festival on March 17th; we are very excited to play at home.

12. Tell me about your outlook on the record industry today? Have you had any luck with getting signed to a label or have you decided to release all your music independently?

Evan: The Art of Fiction was released independently. I think the record industry is far too big to generalize. We just love our fans and making music.

13. You have a music video for the song "Who I Am..." what is the concept behind it?

Evan: The story is that I am trapped in a room, which represents a difficult place in life that i recently faced. My friends all try different tactics to help me out of the room. I end up turning my back on music, that’s what the piano burning represents. I ultimately face myself and my fear and realize who i am. At the end the fear is left alone in the room.

14. What else can we see from Avion Roe?

Evan: We are shooting another music video next week for The Difference Between Us, stay on our Facebook to see when its coming out.

Better known by her stage persona of Emilie Autumn she's been around fifteen years and she says "I'm just another pretty face" on the track "Misery Loves Company" off her 2006 release "Opheliac". But is that all she is? Just another pretty face in the crowd of the infamous California sunshine... Perhaps she is and perhaps she isn't but if you have not heard her name by now let's just say you already did.

In any case it's been quite some time since we've heard from Emilie Autumn and since this release she's been occupying her time towards her next all new release which she declares to be a continuation of this last release. But instead of jumping ahead "Opheliac", consisted of a variety of styles classical, electronica, glam rock with theatrics, burlesque, with flamboyant outfits to the all natural gothic or as she puts it "Victoriandustrial".

The use of her violin and various electronic beats really captures the essence and elemental realm that such songs as "The Art of Suicide", "I want My Innocence Back", "Gothick Lolita", and "Dead is the New Alive", progresses. A lot of elements are at play here and that’s what makes this album stand out the most. Emilie Autumn has portrayed herself as a musician but one that can overcome her own abilities and skills as a person and infusing that emotion and raw enforcement is what makes her creativity that more genuine.

“Opheliac” comes in a deluxe and non-deluxe versions having the deluxe contain an extra disc that has additional tracks and other material that will captivate any Emilie Autumn fan who wants to devour within her sound of her music.

Legendary thrash band, OVERKILL have announced their next full length entitled "The Electric Age" due out on eOne Music March 27, 2012. The record will be released in Europe on Nuclear Blast Records on March 30, 2012. The band will tour the US this spring on their very own KILLFEST 2 this spring in support.

"The Electric Age" was recorded and mixed at Gain Studios in New Jersey, owned and operated by bassist D.D. Verni. This is the bands followup record to "Ironbound" released in 2010 which recieved much critical praise. Decibel Magazine went as far to add, "Call this thrash, or whatever: to us, it's just metal. And damn good metal, at that."

MESHUGGAH's North American touring plans, Haake said, "We're doing a tour in May with DECAPITATED and BARONESS being with us on that tour. So, uh, keep your eyes peeled for that. That tour, the dates will be posted shortly, I think, within the next few days, if it's not on sale yet." Tomas also confirmed that MESHUGGAH will return to North America in October/November for another full-length run.

To create the video for their new single "Dry Bone Valley", Atlanta progressive rockers MASTODON have teamed up with noted fine artist Tim Biskup, a longtime friend who has amassed a cadre of loyal fans and collectors of his painting and sculpture, which boast complex color and design theories and a decidedly populist aesthetic. This collaboration with MASTODON marks Biskup's first foray into film/video work in nearly six years.

"Doing video for 'Dry Bone Valley' was a dream project," says Biskup, who also designed a hoodie for MASTODON in the past. "The band's aesthetic has always been interesting and inspiring to me and I think what I do aligns with their music. When I pitched my idea, it was very vague — like a stream-of-consciousness poem — more than a traditional treatment. They were on board from the start and willing to trust me and let me experiment. It let me follow the same kind of path that I go down when I work on improvised paintings and sculptures. I love working on film, but finding people who trust me enough to just let me do my thing is tricky, so I'm thrilled to venture back in with this project."

"Tim is an old friend of ours and one of my favorite artists," says MASTODON's Brann Dailor about working with Biskup. "The opportunity to work with him was unique and very special for us."

The "Dry Bone Valley" video is "basically about waking up to find yourself being chased by death and having to reckon with dying and what that actually means to you," Biskup explains. "It's a life/death metaphor where the girl in the video goes from hunted to hunter. There's a whole lot more going on metaphorically, and the symbolism goes very deep and is very specific, but I'll leave the rest up to interpretation."

German thrash metal veterans DESTRUCTION will embark on the North American "30th Year Anniversary Tour" in May with support from WARBRINGER, VITAL REMAINS and PATHOLOGY. DESTRUCTION states, "Thrash metal history comes alive with classic hits and anthems!"

The exact cities and dates for the "30th Year Anniversary Tour" will be announced soon.

DESTRUCTION has commenced work on its 30th-anniversary album. The CD is due later in the year.

Inspired by IRON MAIDEN, MERCYFUL FATE, MOTÖRHEAD and VENOM, DESTRUCTION was formed as KNIGHT OF DEMON in 1982. The band's original lineup included vocalist and bassist Marcel "Schmier" Schirmer, drummer Tommy Sandmann, and guitarist Mike Sifringer. They soon changed their name to DESTRUCTION and released a demo titled "Bestial Invasion Of Hell" in 1984.

"Day Of Reckoning", the latest album from DESTRUCTION, sold around 800 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 58 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

"Day Of Reckoning" entered the German Media Control chart at position No. 95. The CD was released in Europe on February 18, 2011 via Nuclear Blast Records.
